Dai Price | GIS Specialist
Dai Price is a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist with 25 years of experience in the environmental consulting, project management, and applied research industries. Skilled in the use of cutting edge spatial technology he brings a unique combination of knowledge and expertise into his GIS and remote sensing career. Committed to providing his clients with the best products and service possible Dai is driven by the philosophy “Invest your time and resources into doing it right instead of doing it over”.
In 2021 Dai enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Technology Geographic Information Systems (BGIS) degree program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). The BGIS program honed his GIS skills in cartography & data capture, remote sensing & raster imagery, database design & management, web based applications, mobile mapping, process automation, and scripting languages.
Having completed all his academic course requirements Dai moved on to a four month internship with the City of Calgary’s Planning and Development department. His assigned project was to create, build and develop an interactive Client Relationship Management (CRM) system for the Downtown Strategy Team. This project utilized all of Dai’s interpersonal, geospatial and cartography skills including interacting with multiple city departments, accessing various geodatabases, managing geospatial and non-geospatial datasets, creating several web maps, and publishing multiple layers to the City’s corporate portal. The final product consisted of an interactive ESRI dashboard. The base map displayed the six communities contained within the City of Calgary’s Greater Downtown Plan. The interactive layers displayed geospatial information including parcels of land, building, crime, schools, recreations facilities and parking. Statistical and ownership information was linked to each record and displayed via a pop up window.
Dai believes in giving back to the community and welcomes opportunities where he may volunteer his GIS expertise. In his personal time he enjoys pursuing his passions in photography, scuba diving, motorcycles and spending time in is favourite Jazz club.
